GAIA’S DAY IN THE SUN

Flown from London to Cannes to visualise empty walls, I thought at the time… well, so far so good! Returning the same day with a commission of 3 artworks… let’s put it this way, it doesn’t happen every day!

The only requirement was the extensive use of the colour brown on all 3 artworks.

“Gaia’s day in the sun” was a diptych designed to adorn the first floor in between the home lift and the monumental entrance door.

I chose here to create a dramatic storyline – I wanted to give a voice to the Earth and allow her to speak out, to inter-lock and shock… to contort and to release.

Starting from an ammonite in its core, I used many different materials to recreate the rich layers of the Earth’s strata. From of iridized glass, to matte ceramic, silver tiles, pyrite, turquoise, stones and lapis lazuli, this triptych was chosen to feature in the American “Nonprofit quarterly magazine”.

Materials : Iridized glass, matte ceramic, tiger stones, turquoise, pyrite and lapis lazuli stones, venetian mirrors and ammonite.

Diptych dimensions : 100 cm x 55 cm x 2 cm

Year: 2010
