INFINITY AND BEYOND

“Human beings, vegetables, or cosmic dust, we all dance to a mysterious tune intoned in the distance by an invisible player.”
— Albert Einstein

Pi (Greek letter π) is the symbol used in mathematics to represent a constant — the ratio of the circumference of a circle to its diameter — which starts like this…   3.14159 etc…

In basic mathematics, Pi is used in all sorts of calculations from building & construction to quantum physics, from space flight to calculating the state and evolution of the universe. Pi also appears in the natural world, from the pupil of the eye to the shape of shells, from the spiral of the DNA double helix to the ripples of light and sound. Pi is everywhere!

Pi is an immutable, universal constant of infinite digits. Humans did not invent it, they discovered it. It is as old as time itself. If the universe were to disappear tomorrow, the eternal mathematical truths of Pi would still exist.

Pi always was, is and will always be.

I decided to create Pi in its pure visible form on a carved cement slab (2 m x 1m). Pretty much like a child would think or like a synesthete would feel, I associated each number from 0 to 9 with a specific colour to give the numbers a voice from within and magnify Pi’s mysteries and singularities.

“Infinity and beyond” is like a “Rosetta Stone”, and probably my unconscious way to retain, for eternity, this universal constant, encoded in most processes occurring in the universe, and where may well lie some answers about the truth of Creation itself.
